Some Tips on Sharpening Kitchen Knives
Discovering that your trusty kitchen knife has gone blunt while preparing a meal can be annoying. Therefore, it is always in the cook’s best interest to know how to sharpen it himself to make the tool last longer and avoid the hassle of buying a new one.
When sharpening steel, hold the latter firmly in one hand while the other grips the top part of the knife securely. Then, place the cutting tool just under the handle of the steel, making sure that the former is inclined at a 10 to 25 degree angle.
Draw the knife blade down the steel several times until the entire cutting surface of the knife has been drawn across the steel on both sides of the blade.
However, if you have a commercial knife sharpener, refer to the instruction booklet that came with it. Usually, the process involves drawing the cutting tool’s blade through the mechanism toward you until the knife is sharpened.
